About this opportunity
We are searching for a chartered building surveyor with experience working at director level to join us as building surveying lead for our South West region. As director and South West regional lead, you will be responsible for management, strategy and growth of Gleeds Building Surveying services across our Bristol, Cardiff & Exeter offices.
We are looking for a strategic, proactive and results driven professional, with a commercial, growth mindset. You will work with and report directly into UK and regional directors to identify opportunities, clarify objectives & produce actionable strategies.
You will facilitate regional growth through effective people & budget management, strategic business development, high quality service delivery and a collaborative approach, connecting with wider UK regions to collaborate on national programmes, maximising service delivery & fee generation for the region and wider UK business.
As Building Surveying director for the South West, you will be responsible for two existing business units in Bristol & Cardiff, with the view to develop a third to sit alongside our Exeter team of project & cost managers to deliver for clients in the local region.
We are looking for prior experience either managing a substantial building surveying team or teams across multiple office. You will have experience as budget holder, reporting to senior regional / national stakeholders, and have delivered team or regional growth as director or head of building surveying.
Recent work experience within a building or construction consultancy is essential for this position.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Formulating and managing strategies to deliver the business objectives
- Actively identifying new business development opportunities and driving growth across the Business Unit’s activities
- Ensuring that projects are managed in accordance with Gleeds processes and procedures (governance and controls)
- Agreeing fees and charges for potential services with Business Unit Manager / Area Chair
- Agreeing appointments / scope of services. Ensuring that appointments are in place prior to commencing service delivery
- Delivering high quality services and deliverables ensuring that services meet our customer’s requirements;
- Reviewing scope of appointments on a monthly basis to ensure services are being delivered in accordance with appointments
- Managing and maintaining customer relationships (i.e. clients, business [partners, and other consultants). Ensuring a customer care plan is in place
- Resolving customer complaints
- Ensuring sufficient resources are made available to deliver services on our projects, including managing resource conflict resolution (with fellow directors)
- Leading and managing teams, including working with associate directors in managing resources and workload. Ensuring compliance with administrative requirements (appraisals, training, timesheets etc)
- Managing employees, focussing on retention and development
- Developing and enhancing Gleeds Building Surveying capability
- Briefing employees on relevant aspects of Gleeds business
- Preparing bids for services
- Managing service delivery for profit
- Managing the commercial aspects of projects (e.g. scope of services/deliverables, invoices, payments, and debt management)
- Working harmoniously with other Directors and assisting Business Unit Manager / Area Chair
