  • About this opportunity

    As a member of our on-site Commercial Management team, the Cost Manager will support the delivery of the change management and payments scope within a large-scale data centre construction project.

    Location: Sines, Portugal. This role requires being on-site during the work week. No rotation or fly-in/fly-out arrangement applies.
     
    Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
    • Supporting Business Unit Directors in delivering business objectives.
    • Managing and delivering high-quality change management and payment services in accordance with the Client’s requirements and Gleeds’ business procedures.
    • Supporting the identification, review, assessment, approval, implementation, and close-out of project changes.
    • Reviewing change requests, contractor quotations, and supporting information, and assessing their cost, contractual, programme, and risk implications.
    • Maintaining change registers, records, and supporting documentation to ensure clear audit trails.
    • Providing cost and commercial advice on proposed and instructed changes.
    • Reviewing applications for payment and valuations of completed work.
    • Assessing progress against the scope of works and supporting the preparation of payment recommendations or certificates.
    • Coordinating with the project, commercial, design, and construction teams to ensure that changes and payments are accurately recorded and processed on time.
    • Preparing and presenting regular change management, payment, cost, and commercial reports to the Client.
    • Identifying and managing cost-related risks and opportunities associated with changes and payment processes.
    • Supporting the resolution of commercial issues and payment disputes where required.
    • Contributing to the effective integration of change management and payment activities into the overall project delivery process.
    • Managing service delivery in accordance with the agreed scope, programme, and budget, while maintaining profitability.
    • Advising Directors promptly of any issues that have arisen, or that might arise, on projects; in particular those that might impact on Gleeds professional indemnity (PI) insurance.

  • Who we’re looking for:

    Experience, Knowledge and Key Skills

    • Sound post-contract cost management experience on large-scale construction projects, preferably data centres or other mission-critical projects.
    • Proven experience in change management, including the assessment, administration, tracking, and reporting of project changes.
    • Good knowledge and experience of valuations, applications for payment, payment certification or recommendations, and associated commercial processes.
    • Clear understanding of legislation and contractual provisions affecting building contracts.
    • Clear and effective communication skills - both oral and written.
    • Good organisational skills and the ability to quickly adapt to changing environments.
    • Excellent problem-solving, negotiation, finance and numeracy management skills.
    • Ability to work as part of a team.
    • Proficiency in English. Portuguese is desirable. 
    • Available to work in Sines 5 days per week (no rotation applies).

    Qualifications

    •  Engineering degree, QS degree or similar.
