    We are searching for a growth minded, management level chartered building surveyor to join our Edinburgh office.
     
    You will be a proven work winning professional with excellent interpersonal skills and sound commercial understanding. Support, guidance and resource will be on hand from a collaborative team of industry experts to enable your success.
     
    Joining us as an office lead, you will shape, grow and lead our Building Surveying offering to become a market leader as the discipline lead for our growing Edinburgh office.  
     
    This role is a chance to take your career to the next level, managing and growing a business through a combination of new and existing business growth, brand growth through networking and marketing, team development & management, plus delivery of current and future commissions. 
     
    You will work collaboratively with our established Glasgow building surveying team, as well as cost and project management colleagues in our Edinburgh office. You will have opportunities to leverage existing relationships and partnerships to generate new workstreams.
     
    You will work with built asset solutions colleagues across M&E design, Geomatics, Retrofit AutoCAD/BIM and FM Solutions to produce winning, bespoke proposals for local, regional and national clients, and play a key role in leading delivery of commissions for the Edinburgh office.

    Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • Strategy, planning and delivery of business unit objectives, and optimise growth through proactive business development
    • Actively identifying new business development opportunities and optimising business unit growth
    • Ensuring that projects are managed in accordance with Gleeds processes and procedures (governance and controls)
    • Agreeing fees and charges for potential services with Business Unit Manager / Area Chair
    • Agreeing appointments / scope of services. Ensuring that appointments are in place prior to commencing service delivery
    • Delivering high quality services and deliverables ensuring that services meet our customer’s requirements;
    • Managing and maintaining customer relationships and resolving any customer complaints
    • Ensuring sufficient resources are made available to deliver services on our projects
    • Leading and managing teams, including performance management, mentoring, professional & personal development
    • Developing and enhancing Gleeds Building Surveying capability
    • Preparing bids for services
    • Managing the commercial aspects of projects (e.g. scope of services/deliverables, invoices, payments, and debt management)

  • Who we’re looking for:

    Experience, Knowledge and Key Skills

    • Extensive practical post-qualification experience delivering building surveying services within a professional consultancy environment
    • Sound practical knowledge of construction methods and materials;
    • Excellent knowledge of construction procurement strategies, including tendering and contract strategies;
    • Comprehensive knowledge and practical experience of administering construction contracts;
    • Ability to motivate others (including providing support and encouragement);
    • Effective, growth minded team leadership, management and mentoring experience
    • Proficient and proactive networker
    • Ability to prepare winning bids for services;
    • Competent at negotiating sufficient fees to both complete services and generate required profit levels;
    • A clear understanding of legislation impacting on construction contracts;
    • Demonstratable evidence of delivering services to clients, managing client relationships and interfacing with board / c-suite stakeholders

    Qualifications

    • MRICS (Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors)
