About this opportunity

The Gleeds UK Bid team supports business growth through the creation of winning bid submissions. We do this by ensuring we target the right opportunities with the right proposition in a compelling way.

The Bid Writer is responsible for writing engaging and exceptional content to support the bid process and assist in producing winning bid submissions.

You will support the business by working with Bid Managers and Bid Coordinators to plan and manage the bid response process, and delivering documents in line with the company's brand. The focus of this role is to help manage the response process while ensuring that written bid content is of the highest possible standard.

The role involves bid writing and project managing the entire process. The Bid Writer will also be responsible for the development of the client ‘offer’ (for existing and new clients), and ensuring that we differentiate and develop ahead of the market.

As a Bid Writer, your responsibilities will include:

  • Drafting content, tailored to the sector and the client needs, which clearly answers the client’s questions and portrays the company in the best possible light.
  • Interviewing technical team members to gain a sufficient understanding of a specific topic / project to write a first-draft response.
  • Coaching technical staff in writing best practice.
  • Coordinating, planning, managing, writing and completing the allocated sections of bid submissions.
  • Supporting Bid Managers in storyboarding workshops, and leading workshops where appropriate.
  • Producing clear answer templates for technical authors.
  • Reviewing the submission against client requirements.
  • Running bid kick-off meetings.
  • Reviewing and proofreading bid submissions for quality and accuracy.
  • Ensuring the quality of the response meets the company standards.
  • Editing / rewriting responses received from technical team to ensure they meet the criteria of an ‘excellent’ response.
  • Developing a creative approach to the writing and presentation of bids.
  • Proactively providing strategic advice to technical teams on producing a winning tender.
  • Building internal and external relationships with individuals associated with the bid process to ensure their input enhances the quality of bids.
  • Identifying opportunities to enhance and improve the bid process, ensuring that best practice is implemented and that our pitch resources are used effectively. Considering and suggesting new / alternative ideas.
  • Helping maintain the team’s internal reporting requirements (eg bid aftercare, trackers).
  • Compiling, updating and maintaining a library of company standard tender documentation.
  • Traveling to other Gleeds offices nationally to support bid submissions.
  • Dealing with ad-hoc queries.
  •  Helping ‘champion’ the role of the bid team around the company.

About You

Who we are looking for

Experience, knowledge and key skills:

  • Minimum three years’ experience in bidding.
  • Strong organisational and project management skills.
  • An understanding of professional services and/or the building / property industry preferred.
  • Demonstrable experience of successfully managing bids generating over £250k fee revenue, or with a value of over £15m (for construction projects).
  • Experience of contributing to and delivering sizable bids generating over £1m fee revenue, or with a value of over £100m construction cost.
  • Ability to demonstrate creativity and innovation through the production of bespoke client documentation.
  • Ability to plan and execute bid planning workshops with multiple attendees.
  • Highly experienced in Microsoft Office suite, with exceptional Word and PowerPoint formatting skills.
  • Experienced in Adobe InDesign.
  • Excellent command of both spoken and written English (mandatory).
  • A proactive, self-motivated, enthusiastic and determined bid professional.
  • Excellent grammar, spelling and punctuation skills to create, review and edit copy, ensuring a consistent standard in line with company branding and style.
  • A team player and effective communicator able to establish and maintain harmonious and professional relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Work on own initiative, and to an exceedingly high quality.
  • Able to multi-task and work to tight deadlines in high pressure situations.
  • Possess strong organisational and project management skills.
  • Flexible, results-oriented and keen to take responsibility.
  • Manage delivery of multiple team members and internal / external stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in a relevant discipline (desirable).
